To further facilitate people-to-people exchanges between China and Russia, China has decided to extend its visa-free policy for Russia until December 31, 2027. According to the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection, since the visa-free policy for Russia took effect, the number of Russian travelers entering through Shanghai has surged significantly. The port has continuously optimized customs clearance services to fully support the deepening of China-Russia economic and trade ties and cultural exchanges.
In recent years, as China-Russia economic cooperation and cultural exchanges have deepened, Shanghai has become one of the key destinations for Russian travelers visiting China for tourism and business. Since China implemented the visa-free policy for Russia on September 14, 2025, as of 12:00 on May 21, 318,000 Russian travelers had entered through Shanghai ports, a year-on-year increase of 67.8%. Among them, over 90% entered under the visa-free policy, with purposes including tourism, business negotiations, and cultural exchanges. The trend of people-to-people exchanges between China and Russia continues to grow.
