「中国にこんなにたくさん美味しいものがある中で、やっぱり僕は潮汕の料理が一番好きだ。広州に大学に来たばかりの時、食事の習慣にいろんな違いがあることに気づいた。潮汕ではガチョウの醤油煮が大好きだけど、こっちは焼きアヒルや焼き肉が多い。広州の人たちは朝ごはんに朝茶を飲みながら点心を食べるけど、僕は朝は白粥にいろんな漬物を合わせて食べるのが習慣だ。汕头に帰るたびに、食べたいものをリストにして、母に電話して事前に準備してもらう。食べたいものを全部食べ終わるまでは絶対に気が済まない。汕头の街角で大好きな糖葱薄餅に出会ったら、たとえお腹がパンパンでも絶対に買ってしまう。」
